What will the job market in 2040 look like?
With technology advancing at a staggering rate around the world, is it any wonder that the jobs in 2040 will look very different from how they do now?
Research from BAE Systems suggests that virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies will significantly impact and influence future careers in engineering, manufacturing and technology sectors. A recent survey shows that almost half of 16 – 24 year olds believe their future roles currently don’t exist and 74% feel they are not getting enough information to equip themselves with the appropriate skills to be successful in future roles. In response to this, there has been keen interest to predict these new areas in a bid to visualise what the future holds for young prospects.
With over one million of Amazon’s Alexa devices being used daily at home, AI is becoming increasingly popular and more widely accepted in 2019. The McKinsey Global Institute estimates that AI can automate 50% of all paid tasks today, complete repetitive tasks and organise random data better than any human can. With this new technology entering new industries also comes responsibility: both in the training and processing of future human and AI assistants, as well as in the ethical use of these technologies, ensuring AI is beingused responsibly and is responding the way it should.
Virtual Architects is predicted a popular future role in the transportation industry, where virtual and augmented reality are used to map and monitor the health of vehicles and component parts to better manage efficiency, health and safety and manufacturing. Robotic automation is already a huge part of the manufacturing industry and with these robots becoming increasingly useful in other areas, new roles in managing and advising on the applications of these will begin to appear.
